 ________________

Mike Papagni

Outfield

Mike 'Hardcore' Papagni has brought his all out style of play to the Pondfeilders since their first full season. His diving efforts on shallow fly balls from his center scout position are now the stuff of legend. Mike also sports a fearsome bat that gets him on the base paths where he wrecks havok with an abundance of speed. This all around ballist is also a board member, as the Pondfeilders' team Secretary Mike is the official record keeper.

Dave Gonsalves

Third Base\Outfield

“Scooter” is a founding member of the Pondfeilders and an assistant captain. He is a former Bristol (RI) player who along with Captain Jim Regan brought vintage base ball to his home town of Melrose. Dave is a sure handed rifle armed ballist in the field and a difficult out as a striker. When there are “ducks on the pond” for the Melrose side, you’ll often find Scooter amongst them. He sets a high example that rest of the Pondfeilders follow. His nickname is due to his excessive speed on the basepaths.

Jim Regan

First Base\ Outfield

“Cap” founded the Melrose Pondfeilders in 2001. It was Jim’s dream to have a vintage base ball team in his home town and after two years with the Bristol (RI) Blues, he achieved his goal.  Jim's sure hands, tall frame, and graceful agility make him the quintessential first baseman. His batting power is legendary which means his name is always penciled into the meat of the order. His even temper and gentlemanly play set a high standard for the team to follow.

Matt Moore

Outfield\ Second Base

Part of the Pondfeilder youth movement, Matt was known as "the Kid" but has since picked up the nickname "Clean" due to his vice-free lifestyle and his slick fielding ability. In addition to his fielding skills, Clean has always been a threat on the basepaths. This year he has added the ability to swing away as well as lay down a nice fair/foul.

Paul Cunningham

Behind\ Outfield

"Tator" served as Captain of the Melrose squad for a couple of seasons. His nickname is short for "Dictator" which should not be taken as a serious reflection on his management style. Tator is very agile behind the plate and has made many strikers dead by catching their foul ticks. As a striker, he has developed into a fearsome cleanup. On the basepaths he relies on cunning and guile. Tator is an original member of the team.

 Past Players

The Pondfeilders have been around since 2001. Over the years we have lost players due to family obligations, moving out of state, etc. In this section we recognize the heroes of our past.

“Firehouse” played for the Pondfielders from their first game. He combines his natural ability with a seasoned veteran’s experience to be a formidable ballist. He is known as a patient striker with a great eye for good pitches and his soft hands make his play seem effortless in the field. Scott is a Melrose native who works as a fireman at the Main St. fire department.

Mike Fowle

Third Base\ Shortstop\ Outfield

“Long Distance” has displayed a veteran’s ability to play the game from the moment he joined the pondfeilders this year. Mike brings an athleticism to the game that make him superior fielder and striker. Mike’s versatility in the field makes the captain’s job easier since he can start several postions.

________________

Mike Cipriano

Oufield\ Second Base

"Cippy" has been with the team since its inception. He is a great presence on the sidelines where he keeps everyones spirits up as well as in the field where he is death to flying things. Cippy is a crafty striker who is known to lay down a fair/foul and rely on his blinding speed. Mike grew up in Melrose but now resides next door in Malden.

________________

Brian Maher

Second Base

"The Teague's" athleticism makes him a very exciting ballist to watch whether he is in the field, at the plate or on the basepaths. As a striker, Brian is an excellent leadoff or number two. He has the ability to hit for power and can swing from either side of the plate. The Teague is a terror on the basepaths with his blinding speed. In the field his cat-like agility allows him to get to many balls in spectacular style. Brian is an original member of the team and resides in Melrose.

Chuck Person

Pitcher\ Behind\ Outfield

“Crackerjack” earns his nickname every time he steps on the field. He is skilled at every position he plays and always gives one hundred percent. His energy knows no bounds and he is perhaps the most vocal promoter of vintage base ball on the Pondfeilders. The energy that he brings to the game provides enough electricity for the entire team even on the hottest of days. Whether Chuck’s scoring on a single from first base or fielding a fair foul from the pitcher’s line, teammates and foes alike can only marvel at his drive and determination.

Tom Regan

Center Field\ Third Base

"T-Bone" anchors the outfield with his great range, steady hands and gatling gun like arm. Tom also swings a mighty bat and does his share of work on the basepaths. “Birdy” has been playing vintage base ball for a while. He started playing for the Bristol (RI) Blues and later joined Melrose as founding member of the Pondfeilders. Brian is an all around ballist who is equally adept in the field and at the bat. He is often the leadoff striker in the Melrose batting order and when he’s on base he causes havoc for the battery.  Birdy, a Melrose resident originally from Delaware, also serves as an assistant captain for the team and is known to lead from example.

Andy Cunningham

Pitcher\ Behind\ 1st Base

“The Bishop” has “blessed” the Pondfeilders with his magnificent pitching skill since their inaugural game in 2001. He also holds the Pondfeilders record for the longest commute to get to a game coming all the way from Los Angeles for several games He has earned a reputation as a slick fielding pitcher who always “delivers the ball for the striker” as Chadwick’s rules intended. His infectious enthusiasm and jovial demeanor never fail to keep the team loose on game day.  Andy has also earned a reputation for being a really tough out as a striker thanks largely to use of the fair/ foul.

Scott Roy

Outfield\ Behind\ First Base

“Bookie” is an outfielder who’s long graceful strides allow him to reach balls that other ballists only dream of catching. He joined the Pondfeilders in their first full season and has been an able player ever since. Scott brings an accomplished bat to the team as well making him a double threat for the opposition. Scott’s nickname reflects that he’s one of the scholars on the team; he’s an English teacher at Woburn High.
